Rahab: Faith That Changes the Past

Many people feel their past is too dark for God to use. Yet Rahab’s story proves that faith can change the direction of a life, even a bad past. Rahab was a woman known as a prostitute in the city of Jericho (Joshua 2:1). In human eyes, her reputation was ruined, but in God’s eyes, her believing heart opened the way for His plan of salvation.

When the two Israelite spies came to Jericho, Rahab made the bold decision to hide them. She said, “The LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below” (Joshua 2:11). This statement shows that Rahab did not only know about God, but trusted Him. Faith made her act, not just think.

Because of her courage, her family was saved when Jericho fell. More than that, Rahab became part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5). Imagine, someone whose past was full of shame being transformed into part of the history of the world’s salvation.

Rahab’s story reminds us that the past does not define our future. God does not look at who we were before, but who we are willing to become in Him. True faith always involves actions that align with what we believe. Like Rahab, we may need to make a bold decision that breaks the chain of the past and steps into God’s calling.

Hebrews 11:31 records Rahab’s name as a hero of faith. This means God not only forgives our past, but also values our faith as something precious in His eyes. If God could use Rahab, He can also use anyone who fully surrenders to Him.

Lord, thank You because You are able to turn my dark past into a testimony for Your glory. Teach me to have courageous faith like Rahab, who not only believed in her heart, but also acted according to Your will.
