We often say that we believe in the Gospel, but have we ever honestly asked ourselves, โDo I truly believe?โ Believing the Gospel is not only acknowledging that Jesus died and rose again, but also surrendering our lives completely to Him.
The apostle Paul wrote, โFor I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believesโ (Romans 1:16). If we truly believe the Gospel, our lives will show real change. To believe means to rely fully, not merely to understand it in theory.
Many people know the content of the Gospel, but not everyone allows the Gospel to change the way they think, make decisions, and live out their faith. For example, the Gospel says that we have been forgiven in Christ (Ephesians 1:7), yet we still live in a crippling sense of guilt. The Gospel says that the Lord provides for our lives (Matthew 6:26), yet we remain ruled by worry as if everything depends on ourselves.
To believe the Gospel means letting that truth flow from the head to the heart, and then into action. That means when the Word says, โdo not worry,โ we choose to lean on the Lord. When the Word says, โforgive,โ we do it even when it is hard. When the Word says, โfollow Me,โ we step forward even though we cannot yet see the whole path.
The real test is not when we say we believe, but when we face the storms of life. Will we still hold on to His promise, or begin to doubt Him? Like Peter walking on the water (Matthew 14:29-30), we may begin to sink when we look at the storm, but Jesus is always ready to reach out His hand to those who are willing to believe again.
Lord, help me not only to say that I believe, but to truly live out Your Gospel every day. Teach me to surrender my whole life, so that my words, thoughts, and actions align with Your truth.
