In this age, human opinions are everywhere. Social media is full of opinions, advice, and even each person’s version of “truth.” Some sound wise, some are emotional, and some sound logical but do not align with the truth of the Word. If we are not careful, the voice of human can become more dominant than the voice of God in our lives.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” This means that God’s Word is the primary standard to guide our steps. Human opinions can change, but God’s Word endures forever. Matthew 24:35 affirms, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
Jesus Himself once faced the difference between human opinion and God’s truth. In Mark 7:8 He rebuked the Pharisees, “You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” They valued tradition and public opinion more than the truth of the Word. Isn’t the same thing often happening to us as well? Sometimes we care more about “what people say” than “what God says.”
Valuing the Word means placing it above every opinion, even our own. There are times when the Word corrects us and feels hard. There are times when the Word goes against the majority. Yet if we truly love the Lord, we will choose to obey the Word, not the loudest voice. Peter and the other apostles once said to the religious leaders, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).
Valuing the Word above human opinion also means making the Bible a filter in our lives. Before we make decisions, we need to ask, “Does this align with the Word?” Before receiving someone else’s advice, we must weigh it and ask, “Does this agree with God’s truth?” In that way, we will not easily be shaken by changing opinions.
The Word is not just information, but transformation. If we truly place it above every opinion, our lives will be filled with clear direction, peace, and strength to endure in the midst of the world’s pressures.
Today, let us ask ourselves: Am I more afraid of pleasing people than pleasing God? Has the Word truly become the highest standard in my life? If the answer is not yet, now is the time to return the Word to its rightful place.
Lord, help me to always value Your Word more than human opinion. Teach me not to be shaken by the voice of the world, but to hold firmly to eternal truth. May my life always be guided by Your Word. Amen.
