Often we think that God only delights in large and valuable offerings. We compare ourselves to others who seem more capable of giving, then feel unworthy. In fact, God does not look at the size of our offering, but the heart that gives it. What God longs for is a heart attitude full of love, obedience, and surrender.
In Romans 12:1, Paul writes, “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, I urge you to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true worship.” This means God desires our whole life, thoughts, actions, and heart more than just objects or material things.
What can we offer to God?
- A sincere heart. Psalm 51:17 says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” God delights in a heart willing to be transformed, not merely in formalities.
- Our time and attention. The world often steals our focus, but the time we spend praying, reading the Word, and serving is a precious offering to God.
- Talents and abilities. Everyone is given different gifts. When we use those talents for God’s glory, we are presenting something beautiful.
- Obedience in daily life. Simple actions like being honest, forgiving, or helping others are tangible forms of offering.
The story of the poor widow in Mark 12:43-44 teaches a valuable lesson. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” It is not the amount that impresses God, but the sincerity of the heart.
God does not demand that we give what we do not have. What He longs for is a willing heart. Even a prayer of thanksgiving amid difficulties, small acts of service, or sacrificing time are fragrant offerings before Him.
Let us ask ourselves: “What can I offer to God today?” It may not be great wealth, but a life willing to be used by Him is the best offering. God is not looking for perfection; He seeks a faithful heart.
