When Your Life Makes No Sense to the World

There are times when our faith makes us look strange in the eyes of the world. When we choose to forgive those who hurt us, keep giving when we ourselves are lacking, or keep believing when circumstances do not support us, the world may say that we are unrealistic. Yet that is exactly the beauty of living in Christ. The life of a believer does not always make sense to the world, but it makes sense to God.

Jesus Himself once said, โ€œIf the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me firstโ€ (John 15:18). This means we should not be surprised when the world does not understand the way we live. The world measures everything by human logic, while we walk by faith. As written in 2 Corinthians 5:7, โ€œFor we live by faith, not by sight.โ€

The book of Acts is full of examples of this. Paul and Silas, for instance, were singing praises to God in prison (Acts 16:25). What they did did not make sense to the world, but that is the power of faith. From that praise, the prison doors opened and their chains were loosed. Sometimes obedience that looks โ€œcrazyโ€ in human eyes is the very tool God uses to reveal His power.

We are also often called to walk a path that others do not understand. When we choose honesty in our work even if it costs us, when we put family above personal ambition, or when we keep serving without receiving recognition, the world may consider all of that foolish. Yet 1 Corinthians 1:27 reminds us: โ€œBut God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.โ€

True life is not about looking impressive in the eyes of the world, but about being pleasing before the Lord. Sometimes we will indeed not be understood, but we are fully understood by the God who calls us. And that is enough.

Lord Jesus, thank You because You call me to live in Your way, even though the world often does not understand it. Teach me to remain faithful, to keep believing, and to keep obeying even when the path makes no sense. May my life always be a testimony for You. Amen.
