David gathered at Jerusalem all the leaders of Israel: the chiefs of the tribes, the commanders of the divisions that served the king, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the overseers of the king’s property and livestock, and of his sons; together with the palace officials, the officers, and all the mighty warriors.

Then King David stood up and said, “Hear me, my brothers and my people! I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made preparations to build it.

But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.’
4
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me from all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever; for He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah my father’s house, and from among my father’s sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

And from among all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

He said to me, ‘Solomon your son, he shall build My house and My courts; for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be his father.
7
I will establish his kingdom forever, if he is steadfast in doing all My commandments and My ordinances, as it is this day.’
8
Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, I say to you: Keep and seek after all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance forever to your children after you.
9
And you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek Him, He will let Himself be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house as a sanctuary. Be strong and do it.”

Then David gave to Solomon his son the plan of the porch of the temple and of its rooms, of its treasuries, of its upper chambers and its inner chambers, and of the room for the mercy seat.

Then the plan of all that he had in mind for the courts of the house of the LORD, and for the chambers around it, for the treasuries of the house of God and for the treasuries of the dedicated things;
13
also for the divisions of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels for the service of the house of the LORD.
14
He also gave gold by weight for all the vessels used in every service; and silver by weight for all the silver vessels used in every service,
15
that is, the weight of gold for the golden lampstands and their lamps, gold by weight for each lampstand and its lamps; and for the silver lampstands, silver by weight for each lampstand and its lamps, according to the use of each lampstand in the service.

Then he gave gold by weight for the tables of the showbread, table by table, and silver for the tables of silver;
17
also pure gold for the forks, the basins, and the pitchers; and for the golden bowls, gold by weight for each bowl; and for the silver bowls, silver by weight for each bowl;
18
and refined gold for the altar of incense, by weight as needed, and gold for the design of the chariot of the cherubim that spread out their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

All this was in writing from the hand of the LORD upon me, giving instruction for all the work of this plan.

Then David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do it; do not fear and do not be dismayed, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of God is finished.
21
Behold, the divisions of the priests and the Levites are there for all the service of the house of God, and there are some willing men who are skilled in every task, who can help you. Also the leaders and all this people are wholly at your command.”
