One of the greatest challenges in faith is our desire to always see proof before believing. We often say, “If God truly accompanies us, show us the sign!” In fact, true faith actually walks without having to see proof first.
Jesus once said to Thomas, who doubted His resurrection: “Because you have seen Me, you believe. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29). From this statement, we learn that a believing heart no longer needs to constantly demand proof. To believe means to be confident in the person of God, not just in the visible signs.
Abraham is a clear example of faith that does not depend on proof. He was commanded to go to a land he had never known (Hebrews 11:8). He did not ask for a map, did not wait for confirmation, but obeyed immediately. Why? Because he trusted the God who called him. True faith does not demand certainty from circumstances, but trusts in God’s faithfulness.
Sometimes we think proof will make us more at peace. But in fact, proof only calms us momentarily. Israel had already seen the sea parted (Exodus 14:21-22), had already eaten manna that came down from heaven (Exodus 16:4), yet they still often grumbled and doubted God.
Proof does not always produce faith. It is faith that keeps us going when the evidence is not visible.
Hebrews 11:1 affirms, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” In other words, faith itself is evidence. When our heart believes, we already have assurance even though circumstances have not changed. That is why prayers spoken with faith have power, not because we see, but because we believe in the One who hears our prayers.
In daily life, a believing heart will bring peace. We are no longer easily anxious waiting for certainty, because we know that God’s promises are yes and amen (2 Corinthians 1:20). When we believe, we fully surrender control to God. We do not need proof because His presence is more than enough as assurance.
Today, we may still be waiting for answers to prayers or certain miracles. But let us not let our hearts be bound to evidence. Trust that God is working even though our eyes do not see.
Growing faith is faith that no longer needs to rely on signs, but fully depends on His Word.
Lord, teach us to have a heart that believes without demanding proof. Strengthen our faith so that we always hold on to Your promises, not to the circumstances we see. Thank You because You are faithful, and we want to learn to fully rely on You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
