“You shall love the LORD your God, and faithfully do your duty to Him by always keeping all His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments.

Know today—for I am not speaking to your children, who have not known and have not seen the discipline of the LORD your God—His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm,
3
the signs and the deeds that He did in Egypt against Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and against all his land;
4
and what He did to the army of Egypt, with its horses and its chariots, how He made the waters of the Red Sea cover them when they pursued you, so that the LORD destroyed them forever;
5
and what He did to you in the wilderness until you came to this place;
6
and what He did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, son of Reuben, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their households, their tents, and all who followed them, in the midst of all Israel.

For your own eyes have seen all the great deeds that the LORD did.”

“Therefore you shall keep every command that I am giving you today, so that you may be strong to go in and possess the land that you are going to possess,
9
and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them and to their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.
10
For the land that you are entering to possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you came, where after sowing your seed you had to water it by your own labor, like a vegetable garden.
11
But the land that you are going over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks in water from the rain of heaven;
12
a land cared for by the LORD your God: the eyes of the LORD your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
13
If you will indeed listen to the command that I am giving you today, so that you love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14
then He will give rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, so that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil,
15
and He will give grass in your fields for your livestock, so that you may eat and be satisfied.
16
Take care, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside to serve other gods and bow down to them.
17
If so, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain, and the ground will yield no produce; and you will quickly perish from the good land that the LORD is giving you.
18
But you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul; you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as a symbol on your forehead.
19
You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house and when you are on the way, when you lie down and when you rise up;
20
you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,
21
so that your days and the days of your children may be long in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens are above the earth.
22
For if you carefully keep all this commandment that I am commanding you to do, loving the LORD your God, walking in all his ways, and holding fast to him,
23
then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than you.
24
Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours: from the wilderness to Mount Lebanon, and from the river, the river Euphrates, to the western sea, shall be your territory.
25
No one will be able to stand against you: the LORD your God will put the fear and dread of you upon all the land on which you tread, as he has promised you.
26
See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:
27
a blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today;
28
and a curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, and turn aside from the way that I am commanding you today, by following other gods that you have not known.
29
And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, you shall pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30
Are they not across the Jordan, beyond the road toward the sunset, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah opposite Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?
31
For you are about to cross over the Jordan to go in and possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you; and when you possess it and dwell in it,
32
then you must carefully keep all the statutes and ordinances that I am setting before you today.”

In Deuteronomy 11, Moses calls the people of Israel to love and obey the LORD, not merely because of a command, but because of their own experience of God’s power and presence. The hand of the LORD upon Pharaoh in Egypt.
The Red Sea that was divided.
The judgment on Dathan and Abiram (the rebellion in the wilderness).

- The word of the Lord must:
Be planted in heart and soul.
Be bound on the hand and forehead.

Be written on the doorposts of the house and on the gates.
