Does the Devil Have Power Like God?

Many people wonder, how powerful is the Devil really? Does he have power equal to God? Sometimes when life is tough, the thought arises that darkness seems to be able to win. But is that really true?

The Devil is indeed powerful, but no match for God

The Bible never says that the Devil is weak. He is called the “father of lies” (John 8:44) and “a roaring lion seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). But although cunning and strong, the Devil is still a created being. He is not an equal opponent to God.

God’s power is absolute, unmatched

God is the Creator of everything, including the angels who later fell and became the Devil. Colossians 1:16 explains that all things were created by Him and for Him. This means God has full authority over all powers, including the power of darkness.

The Devil operates within the limits God allows

The clearest example can be seen in the story of Job. The Devil could not harm Job arbitrarily without God’s permission (Job 1:12). This shows that the Devil can only act as far as God permits, and all of it is for purposes that God fully controls.

We don’t need to be afraid, but must remain vigilant

Jesus has already defeated the Devil on the cross (Colossians 2:15). We who believe in Christ live in that victory. But that does not mean we can be careless and reckless. Ephesians 6:11 says we must put on the full armor of God so that we can stand against the schemes of the Devil.

So, who is actually stronger?

The answer is clear: God. The Devil can deceive, tempt, even make people feel despair. But he cannot touch us without God’s permission. As long as we live in the Word and have a close relationship with Christ, we do not need to fear because the power within us is greater than that in the world (1 John 4:4).
