God Doesn’t Need the Great, But the Obedient

We live in a world that worships greatness. The greater someone’s achievements, the higher the appreciation given to them. Often, this culture seeps into our spiritual lives. We think God only uses extraordinary people, those with great abilities, influence, or experience. However, the Bible repeatedly shows the opposite.

God is not looking for the most capable, but the most obedient.

An example can be seen from the life of Moses. When God called him through the burning bush (Exodus 3), Moses repeatedly refused because he felt unworthy. He said, “Who am I?” (Exodus 3:11). He described himself as not eloquent (Exodus 4:10). Yet it was Moses who was chosen to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.

Why? Because God is more interested in an obedient heart than a fluent tongue.

Obedience Is More Important Than Greatness

Greatness can captivate people, but obedience pleases God’s heart. In 1 Samuel 15:22, Samuel said to Saul:

“Indeed, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.”

Saul thought that offerings could replace his disobedience. But God affirmed that what He desires is not great actions, but a submissive heart.

God Uses Those Who Are Willing, Not Perfect

Time and again, God chose people who were not esteemed by the world. Gideon, who was fearful (Judges 6), David, who was young and a shepherd (1 Samuel 16), Mary, who was just a village girl (Luke 1:26-38). They were nobody in the eyes of men, but they said “yes” when God called.

God does not need your greatness, because His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). What God seeks is a heart that says, “I am Your servant; let it be to me according to Your will.”

Don’t Wait to Be Perfect to Step Forward

Many people delay obedience because they feel they are not good enough. But obedience does not wait for perfect readiness. Obedience is a step of faith, even when fear still exists.

James 1:22 says:

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only.”

God wants us to act, not just know. Even small steps in obedience can produce great impact when we walk with God.

Conclusion: God Shapes Through Daily Obedience

If you feel not great, that is not a problem for God. He is not looking for superheroes. He is looking for people who are willing to walk with Him every day, step by step, faithfully.

Do not underestimate obedience that seems small. In the kingdom of God, the great ones are the faithful ones. Because in the end, God will say:

โ€œWell done, good and faithful servant…โ€ (Matthew 25:21)
