God Is Not Late, We Are Just Afraid

When our prayers have not been answered or life plans feel out of sync with our hopes, we often say in our hearts, “Lord, why are You slow?” Yet, God is never late. He always comes at the right time, only His timing is different from ours. What often becomes the problem is our own fear that makes us feel as if God is not working.

In 2 Peter 3:9 it is written, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness, but is patient with you.” This verse affirms that God never forgets His promises. Indeed, He wisely arranges the timing so that everything happens at the most appropriate moment.

Our fear often comes from the desire to control the situation. We want everything to happen according to our schedule, but God sees a much bigger picture. When Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, He deliberately delayed two days before coming (John 11:6). From a human perspective, that was late, but for God, it was the perfect time to demonstrate His power of resurrection.

God is not late, we are just in a hurry. In Isaiah 55:8-9, God says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways… as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways.” God’s timing is always better, even though we often do not understand it now.

How can we overcome fear when God feels “slow”?

  1. Remember His promises. God’s promises never fail (Numbers 23:19).
  2. Focus on His faithfulness in the past. If God has helped us before, He will do it again.
  3. Learn to be patient and trust the process. What we consider a delay may be God’s preparation for something greater.

Fear will only make us lose joy. But when we believe that Godโ€™s timing is never wrong, our hearts can be at peace. Romans 8:28 reminds us, โ€œWe know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.โ€ Even when we donโ€™t see the answer, God is working behind the scenes.

Maybe today you feel like your prayers are unheard, but remember: God is not late. We are just afraid because we only see today, while God already sees the end of the story.
