Have we ever felt that God is so far away, as if He is not answering our prayers? Yet often, God speaks not only through dreams or a clearly heard voice, but also through simple events in everyday life. We only need to be sensitive enough to notice it.
The Bible is full of stories of how God uses ordinary things to reveal His will. Moses saw a bush that was burning but not consumed (Exodus 3:2). Elijah heard God’s voice not in the earthquake or the fire, but in a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12). Even Jesus often taught with simple parables about seeds, fish, or bread. All of this shows that God is close to human life, speaking in the language of our daily experience.
The same is true in our lives today. There are times when God corrects us through a small event, for example when we nearly fall because we were not careful, and then remember to be more watchful in our spiritual walk. There are times when He strengthens us through a stranger who suddenly helps us. It may even be through a child speaking a simple word that God reminds us to return to a pure heart.
Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Every time we look at the sunrise or the stars at night, that is also God’s voice reminding us that He is sovereign, faithful, and present. Often, we are busy looking for spectacular signs, when God is actually working through simple yet meaningful things.
God’s Word also affirms that it is the Holy Spirit who helps us understand the way God speaks. John 14:26 says, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” This means that when we live close to the Holy Spirit, we will become more sensitive to how God uses even small events to teach us.
Perhaps today God wants to speak through a friend who gives us advice, through a prayer answered not as we wanted, or even through a failure we experience. Do not rush to think it is a coincidence. In every event, God can sow a message for us to receive.
So let us learn to open our spiritual eyes. Do not only wait for God to speak through great things, but realize that even in our daily routines, He is still present, teaching, correcting, and comforting us.
Lord Jesus, thank You because You are faithful to speak in my life, even through simple things. Open my eyes so that I may be sensitive to every sign and every word from You. Teach me to always listen and obey Your will. Amen.
