There is a dramatic moment in the book of Isaiah that we often remember. The prophet Isaiah saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, while the seraphim called to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory!” (Isaiah 6:3). The sight was so overwhelming that Isaiah felt undone: “Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips…” (verse 5).
There Isaiah realized: before a holy God, he was unworthy. Yet God sent a seraph to touch his lips with a burning coal, cleansing him, and then a voice was heard: “Whom shall I send? And who will go for Us?” (verse 8). Without knowing the details of the mission he would carry out, Isaiah answered, “Here am I. Send me!”
This is extraordinary obedience: being willing without waiting to know everything.
Many of us often delay obedience because we say we are not ready yet. We want to know the details first, we want assurance that we will not fail, we wait until all conditions are favorable. Yet the Lord often calls us to step forward even when we do not yet know how it will end.
Isaiah was called not for an easy task. The Lord even said that the nation he would serve would not immediately repent, and that their hearts would remain hard (Isaiah 6:9–10). Imagine serving without being popular, sowing the Word but not always reaping visible results. Yet that is where Isaiah’s obedience was tested: not about instant results, but about faithfulness.
True obedience does not wait for a complete map, but trusts that the Lord Himself will be the guide.
In our lives, God’s call can come in many forms: forgiving those who hurt us, loving those who are hard to love, serving when it feels heavy, giving when we do not have abundance, or remaining faithful in prayer when there is still no answer. All of this calls us to say, “Yes, Lord, I am willing,” even when we do not yet know what will happen next.
Isaiah teaches us that our readiness does not come from perfect circumstances, but from a willing heart. God is not looking for the smartest, the most eloquent, or the strongest. God is looking for a heart that says: “Here am I. Send me.”
Perhaps right now you feel unworthy, not ready enough, or lacking everything needed. Remember, Isaiah also felt that his lips were unclean. But the God who calls is also the God who cleanses and equips. If He calls you, He Himself will strengthen your steps.
The question now is: are we willing to say yes, even before knowing all the details of God’s mission?
Lord, so often I want to wait until everything is clear before I step forward. But I am learning from Isaiah that You care more about a willing heart than perfect ability. Change my heart so I can boldly say, “Here am I. Send me,” even when I do not yet know all Your plans. Lead my steps, and let me remain faithful in following Your call. Amen.
