“Indeed, all this my eye has seen, my ear has heard and understood.

What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you.

But I, I would speak to the Almighty; I desire to plead my case before God.

But as for you, you are men who cover over lies; you are all worthless physicians.

Oh, that you would keep silent; that would be counted as wisdom on your part.

Hear now my defense, and listen to the argument of my lips.

Will you speak falsely for God, and utter deceit for Him?

Will you show partiality to God, and contend on His behalf?

Would it be well when He examines you? Can you deceive Him as one deceives a man?

He will surely rebuke you if you secretly show partiality.

Will not His majesty terrify you, and the dread of Him fall upon you?

Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.

Be silent! I will speak, whatever may come upon me.

I will take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand.

Though He slay me, I have no hope, yet I will defend my conduct before Him.

This also will be my salvation, for a godless man shall not come before Him.

Listen carefully to my words, and give ear to my declaration.

Behold, I have prepared my case; I know that I am in the right.

Who is there that will contend with me? For then I would be silent and perish.

Only do not do two things to me, then I will not hide myself from You:

withdraw Your hand far from me, and let not dread of You terrify me!

Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and You answer me.

How many are my iniquities and my sins? Make known to me my transgression and my sin.

Why do You hide Your face, and count me as Your enemy?

Will You frighten a driven leaf, and pursue dry chaff?

For You write bitter things against me, and make me inherit the iniquities of my youth;
27
You put my feet in the stocks, and watch all my paths; You set a limit for the soles of my feet.

And this against one who is worn away like rotten wood, like a garment eaten by moths!”
🗣️⚖️🙏 Summary of Job 13 – “Let Me Defend My Case Before God”
In Job 13, Job continues his reply to his friends and reaffirms his desire to speak directly with God. He sharply rebukes the friends, whom he have twisted the truth and become “false defenders of God.” Job does not deny God’s power, but wants to argue his case before Him directly — not because he thinks himself wholly righteous, but because he wants to understand the meaning of his suffering.
This is the cry of a righteous man who feels innocent yet still afflicted.
📌 1. You Are Not Wiser Than I Am (verses 1–12)
➡️ Job says with irony:
“My eyes have seen, my ears have heard, and understood all this.”
➡️ He feels that his friends do not know more than he does about God and wisdom
➡️ He accuses them:
“You cover lies with words that are worth nothing… you have become dishonest defenders of God.”
➡️ He even says:
“Do you bribe God with your words?”
🎯 Job strongly condemns hypocritical and merciless spiritual judgment.
📌 2. I Want to Defend Myself Before the Lord (verses 13–22)
➡️ Job says:
“Be silent, and I will speak…”
➡️ He prepares to face God, though he knows the risk:
“Though He slay me, yet I will hope in Him.”
➡️ He feels that only God is just and able to judge, not human beings
➡️ Job wants God to pause His punishment so that he may speak

📌 3. Please, Do Not Silence Me Without Explanation (verses 23–28)
➡️ Job asks bitterly:
“How many are my sins?”
➡️ He wants to know: what sin has caused him to be punished so severely?
➡️ He feels like a dry leaf caught in a storm
➡️ He even says that God is keeping the sins of his youth and surrounding him with no way out
🎯 This is the honest cry of one who trusts in God but does not understand His dealings.

“God who justifies… Christ Jesus is our defender.”
