One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and among them Satan also came to present himself before the LORD.

The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking about on it.”

The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is none like him on the earth, a man so blameless and upright, one who fears God and turns away from evil. He still holds fast his integrity, though you incited me against him to destroy him without cause.”

Satan answered the LORD, “Skin for skin! A man will give all that he has for his life.

But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.”

So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.

And Job took a piece of broken pottery to scrape himself while he sat among the ashes.

Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!”
10
But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, each came from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him.

And when they lifted up their eyes from afar, they did not recognize him. Then they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads toward the sky.

And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great.
🩸🔥🕊️ Summary of Job 2 – The Second Test: Job’s Body Is Attacked, Yet He Remains Faithful
Job 2 continues the story of this most remarkable servant of God’s suffering. After losing his wealth and children, Satan is not satisfied and asks permission to harm Job’s body, believing that if his body is wounded, Job will deny God. Yet the result is the opposite — even though he is in severe pain and abandoned by his wife, Job remains steadfast in faith. At the end of the chapter, his three friends come and sit in silence for 7 days — a quiet moment full of meaning.
📌 1. The Second Heavenly Council: Satan Asks for Permission Again (verses 1–6)
➡️ The angels come again before God — Satan also comes
➡️ God asks again:
“Have you considered My servant Job? He remains upright, though you have stirred Me up against him.”
➡️ Satan answered:
“Skin for skin! Only spare his body. But if You touch his bones and his flesh, he will curse You!”
➡️ The Lord allowed Satan to afflict Job, but he was not to take his life
🎯 The Lord still sets limits on the suffering of His people — even Satan cannot go beyond God’s permission.

“Are you still holding fast to your integrity? Curse your God and die!”

“You speak like a foolish woman. Shall we receive good from the Lord, and shall we not receive evil?”
