There are wounds that are hard to heal not because others refuse to forgive, but because we ourselves have not yet been able to forgive ourselves. Whether due to past mistakes, failures that continue to haunt us, or sins we have committed, guilt feels like a dark shadow that follows us wherever we go.
Many people say, โI know God forgives, but I cannot forgive myself.โ The question is, do we have the right to reject the forgiveness God has already given?
Jesus has fully paid the price on the cross. There is no sin too great for His blood. In 1 John 1:9 it says, โIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.โ
If the Holy God has already forgiven us, why do we still punish ourselves? It may be because we rely on feelings rather than faith. We feel unworthy, but God says, โYou have been redeemed by Me.โ
Romans 8:1 affirms, โTherefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.โ That includes us. Includes you. Includes your past.
Forgiving yourself does not mean ignoring mistakes, but accepting Godโs grace and moving forward. We learn from the past, but we do not live in it.
Perhaps today is the time for you to make peace with yourself. Not because you are good enough, but because Godโs love is enough. And His love is far greater than the guilt you have carried all this time.
