Have you ever felt empty after hours of scrolling through social media? Even though you laughed at memes, felt entertained by funny videos, and even joined in saying “amen” to motivational verses. But once the screen is turned off, the soul still feels lonely.
We live in a virtual era, but our challenges remain real. Many of us know the faces of TikTok celebrities better than the hearts of our own friends. We update our stories more often than we renew our relationship with God.
It doesn’t mean technology is wrong. But when the virtual world replaces real relationships, including our relationship with God, that is where danger lurks. The heart begins to feel empty, the mind quickly tires, and our spirit slowly dries up.
God did not create humans to live through a screen. He longs for personal fellowship, not just likes and notifications. Psalm 63:2 says, “My soul thirsts for You; my body longs for You in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
We cannot fill spiritual emptiness with digital entertainment. No amount of inspiring videos can replace personal quiet time. Only God can satisfy a thirsty soul.
Jesus said, โIf anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink!โ (John 7:37). The virtual world can be enjoyable, but only God can fill the deepest emptiness of our souls.
Perhaps it is time for us to detox for a moment. Not to stop technology completely, but to return God to the center of our attention. Not just opening our phones every morning, but opening our hearts to Him first.
