Moses is known as one of the greatest figures in Bible history, the leader who brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. Yet at first, he was not a confident man. In Exodus 4:10, Moses admitted to the Lord that he was “not eloquent” and slow of speech. He felt unworthy to bear the great task of being God’s spokesman before Pharaoh.
However, God was not looking for someone perfect in skill, but for a heart willing to obey. Weakness does not become an obstacle to God’s plan, as long as we are willing to walk with Him. He assured Moses that He Himself would be with him and teach him what to say. God even sent Aaron, Moses’ brother, to help him speak.
Interestingly, Moses became a leader known for being close to God and for speaking boldly to the Israelites as well as to Pharaoh. That courage was not the result of a change in natural talent, but the fruit of obedience and God’s presence.
In our lives, we often feel not smart enough, not fluent enough, or not equipped to serve God. Yet, if we focus on our shortcomings, we will miss the chance to see how His power works through us. God does not call the perfect, but He equips those who are willing to respond to His call.
So when God places a burden or task on our hearts, do not wait until we feel “ready” or “skilled” first. Step out in faith like Moses, because the God who calls is the God who goes with us.
Lord, I often feel limited and unworthy. Yet teach me to obey and to trust that You are able to equip me to fulfill Your calling.
