Many people came to Jesus during His ministry because they wanted to experience the miracle of healing. Those who were blind could see, the lame walked, and even the dead were raised. Yet, physical healing was not Jesus’ final purpose. He came to give something far greater: eternal salvation.
The story of the ten lepers in Luke 17:11-19 is a clear example. All of them were physically healed, but only one returned to Jesus to give thanks and receive more than healing. Jesus said to him, “Your faith has saved you” (Luke 17:19). Notice the difference: the other nine received healing for their bodies, but only one received salvation for his soul.
Healing is a gift, but if we stop only at a healthy body, we will miss the greatest purpose of Christ’s work. In Mark 2:1-12, when a paralyzed man was brought to Jesus, the first thing He said was not, “You are healed,” but, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Jesus wanted to make clear that humanity’s deepest need is forgiveness and restored relationship with God.
Many people pursue miracles because they want a quick solution to life’s problems. But Jesus offers something more permanent: new life in Him. John 10:10 says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This abundance is not merely wealth or health, but a life filled with peace, joy, and eternal purpose.
If we only seek Jesus when we are sick or trapped in trouble, we will miss the depth of our relationship with Him. But when we seek Him because we love Him, we will discover that salvation is the greatest gift, surpassing every temporary blessing.
Lord, thank You because You do not only heal my body, but also save my soul. Teach me to seek You more than the blessings You give, and to love You for who You truly are.
