Numbers 29 – Trumpets, Atonement, and Festival Offerings

In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall hold a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It is a day of trumpet blowing for you.

You shall present as a burnt offering, as a pleasing aroma to the LORD: one young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old, without blemish;

also their grain offering: fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths of an ephah for the ram,

and one-tenth of an ephah for each lamb of the seven lambs;

and one male goat as a sin offering, to make atonement for you,

besides the burnt offering of the new moon, with its grain offering, and the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and their drink offerings, according to their ordinance, as a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the LORD.

On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall hold a holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselves by fasting; you shall do no work.

You shall present as a burnt offering to the LORD, as a pleasing aroma: one young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old; they shall all be without blemish;

also their grain offering: fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths of an ephah for the one ram,

one-tenth of an ephah for each lamb of the seven lambs;

and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the sin offering of atonement and the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and their drink offerings.

On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall hold a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work, and you shall keep a feast to the LORD for seven days.

You shall present as a burnt offering, as an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD: thirteen young bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old; they shall all be without blemish;

also their grain offering: fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for each of the thirteen bulls, two-tenths of an ephah for each of the two rams,

and one-tenth of an ephah for each lamb, for the fourteen lambs;

and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, with its grain offering and its drink offering.

On the second day: twelve young bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish,

On the third day: eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish,

with their grain offering and their drink offerings, for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, as prescribed;

and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, with its grain offering and its drink offering.

On the fourth day: ten bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish,

with their grain offering and their drink offerings, for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, as prescribed;

and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, with its grain offering and its drink offering.

On the fifth day: nine bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish,

with their grain offering and their drink offerings, for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, as prescribed;

On the sixth day: eight bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish,

On the eighth day you shall hold a solemn assembly; you shall do no laborious work.

These are the things you shall prepare for the LORD at your appointed feasts, besides your burnt offerings, your grain offerings, your drink offerings, and your peace offerings, besides your vows and your freewill offerings.”

• Each day has a gradually decreasing number of offerings:

1. Time and seasons must be consecrated to the Lord.
2. The worship of God’s people is not seasonal — each feast has spiritual meaning in the history of salvation.
3. Yom Kippur emphasizes the need for collective forgiveness and humility.
4. Sukkot marks that life in this world is temporary, but God is with us.
5. The Lord orders the worship of His people in an orderly way so that they do not forget the purpose of their lives: to worship Him.

✨ Spiritual Meaning (New Testament)

• The Day of Trumpets reminds us of the second coming of Jesus, which is associated with the sound of a trumpet (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
• The Day of Atonement is fulfilled by Jesus as High Priest and sacrifice (Hebrews 9:12).
• The Feast of Booths reflects God’s tabernacle with humanity (Revelation 21:3) — a picture of eternity.

🎯 All these feasts are fulfilled in Christ — yet they still teach us about spiritual rhythm, forgiveness, and fellowship with God.
