Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His steadfast love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
those whom He has redeemed from the hand of distress,

and gathered from the lands,
from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

Some wandered in the wilderness,
they found no way to a city where people dwell;
5
they were hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted within them.

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and He delivered them from their distress.

He led them by a straight way,
until they came to a city where people dwell.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love,
for His wondrous deeds to the children of man,
9
for He satisfies the thirsty soul,
and the hungry soul He fills with good things.

Some sat in darkness and gloom,
prisoners in misery and iron,
11
because they rebelled against the commands of God,
and despised the counsel of the Most High.
12
So He brought down their hearts with hardship;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and He saved them from their distress,
14
He brought them out of darkness and gloom,
and broke their chains apart.
15
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love,
for His wondrous deeds to the children of man,
16
for He has broken the bronze gates,
and cut through the bars of iron.
17
Some were made sick because of their sinful ways,
and afflicted because of their iniquities;
18
they loathed all food,
and they drew near to the gates of death.

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and He saved them from their distress,
20
He sent out His word and healed them,
and delivered them from the pit.
21
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love,
for His wondrous deeds to the children of man.
22
Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
and tell of His works with shouts of joy!
23
Some went down to the sea in ships,
engaging in trade on the great waters;
24
they saw the works of the LORD,
and His wondrous deeds in the deep.
25
He spoke, and a stormy wind arose
that lifted up its waves.
26
They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the great deep;
their soul melted away because of trouble;
27
they reeled and staggered like a drunken man,
and were at their wits’ end.
28
Then they cried out to the LORD in their distress,
and He brought them out of their troubles,
29
He made the storm be still,
so that its waves were quiet.
30
Then they were glad because they were quiet,
and He guided them to their desired haven.
31
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love,
for His wondrous works to the children of men.
32
Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people,
and praise Him in the council of the elders.
33
He turns rivers into a wilderness,
and springs of water into dry ground,
34
a fruitful land into a salty waste,
because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35
He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
and dry land into springs of water.
36
There He settles the hungry,
and they build a city to dwell in;
37
they sow fields and plant vineyards,
which yield fruitful produce.
38
He blesses them, and they multiply greatly,
and He does not let their livestock decrease.
39
Yet they are diminished and brought low
through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.
40
He pours contempt on princes,
and makes them wander in trackless wastes;
41
but He sets the poor on high, away from affliction,
and makes their families like a flock.
42
The upright see it and are glad,
but all wickedness shuts its mouth.
43
Who is wise? Let him pay attention to these things,
and consider the lovingkindness of the LORD.
🕊️🙏📖 Summary of Psalm 107 – “The LORD Saves Those in Distress”
Psalm 107 is a psalm of thanksgiving for God’s love and deliverance in many kinds of crisis.
The psalm repeats a strong and poetic pattern:
➡️ People are in distress
➡️ They cry out to God
➡️ God saves them
➡️ Then comes the call: “Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love!”
Four pictures of suffering are used — the wandering, the prisoners, the sick, and the sailors in the storm — all showing human need for divine rescue.
📌 1. An Invitation to Give Thanks (verses 1–3)

📌 2. Four Human Conditions and God’s Deliverance (verses 4–32)
a. Those Lost in the Wilderness (verses 4–9)

➡️ They cried out, and the Lord guided them in the right way.
b. Those Bound in Darkness (verses 10–16)
➡️ Because of rebellion, they were imprisoned and afflicted.
➡️ They cried out, and the Lord set them free and broke their chains.
c. Those Sick because of Sin (verses 17–22)
➡️ Because of sin, they were severely ill and near death.
➡️ They cried out, and the Lord sent His word and healed them.
d. Those Struck by a Storm at Sea (verses 23–32)
➡️ They saw God’s greatness on the sea, but were struck by a great storm.
➡️ They cried out, and the Lord stilled the storm, bringing them to harbor.
🎯 In every case:
- Human beings suffer
- They cry out to the Lord
- The Lord answers with salvation
- And there is the cry: “Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love!”
📌 3. The Lord Turns Things Around (verses 33–42)
➡️ The Lord can turn rivers into a wilderness and a wilderness into springs of water.
➡️ He brings down the proud and lifts up the oppressed.
🎯 The Lord is ruler over circumstances — no situation is too difficult for Him to turn around.
📌 4. Wisdom’s Closing Exhortation (verse 43)
➡️ “Who is wise? Let him pay attention to these things and consider the steadfast love of the LORD.”
🎯 The wise person will reflect on and recognize God’s loving work in life.
