(76-5) Glorious are you, and more excellent than the mountains of prey.

(76-6) The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep, and all the men of might found their hands powerless.

Psalm 76 is a song of victory that sets forth the sovereignty and majesty of God in overthrowing his enemies. Composed by Asaph as a song, this psalm presents God as the King who dwells in Zion and who makes the nations tremble before his power.
God is known in Judah and Israel — not only because of his presence, but because of his mighty deeds in breaking the weapons of the enemy. This psalm teaches that no human strength can stand against God. All must fear and honor him.
