Reevaluating Our Life’s Purpose

Have you ever paused for a moment amidst your busy life and asked, “What is the real purpose of my life?” Many people go through day after day without truly knowing where they are headed. We are chased by targets, routines, and expectations, but not all of these lead us to the true meaning of life.

God did not create us without direction. In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” Our life is not just about working, succeeding, marrying, and then dying. God has a plan greater than all of that.

Yet often we need to stop and reevaluate: am I still walking according to God’s purpose, or have I gone astray? Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” We can have many plans, but only when we align with God’s will does our life have eternal meaning.

Jesus Himself demonstrated an example of a purposeful life. He knew why He came into the world: to save mankind. In John 6:38 He said, “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” If even Jesus, as the Son of God, lived with a clear direction, we too should live with similar awareness.

There may be things we need to let go of in order to return to the true purpose of life. It could be personal ambitions, past wounds, or busyness that dulls our sensitivity to God’s voice. Indeed, not everything good comes from God, and not everything that appears successful is right before Him.

Today, allow God to reevaluate your life. Open your heart and ask Him to guide you back to the right path. As in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”

Life is too precious to live without direction. Let God’s purpose be the compass that guides every step we take.
