Each of us has surely had a season of “sowing in tears” a time when we give, struggle, pray, or remain faithful, even though our hearts are tired, disappointed, and crying in silence. It does not feel easy, and it may even be very painful. But the Bible never promises that the path of faith will always be smooth. What God promises is this: tears are not in vain.
In Psalm 126:5, it is written, “Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy.” This is an extraordinary promise. Tears are not a sign of failure, but part of the process. Sometimes the best seed is planted in soil watered by tears.
We may ask, “Lord, why must I sow in such a difficult season?” But look at the people of the Bible: Joseph kept sowing faithfulness in prison. Hannah sowed prayers filled with tears. Jesus Himself sowed love in the midst of betrayal. All of them passed through seasons of tears, and all of them reaped in God’s time.
The tears of believers are not like tears without hope. In Revelation 21:4, it is promised that “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” God stores our tears as precious treasure. Psalm 56:8 even says, “You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle.” This shows that God does not only see your suffering, He records it.
So if you are in a season of sowing in tears, keep sowing. Keep praying, keep being faithful, keep loving, even if no one sees or repays you. Because God’s promise never fails: “in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9).
There is a time to reap. And when that time comes, tears will be replaced with shouts of joy. Not because everything becomes easy, but because God is faithful to reward every act of faithfulness, even those done through tears.
Lord, when I sow with tears, help me not to give up. Hold my heart so it keeps trusting Your promise. I believe that one day I will reap with shouts of joy because You are a faithful God. Amen.
