This question might be one of the most important questions we can ask in life: “Lord, what do You want me to do with my life?” This question shows that your heart is open, wanting to walk according to His will. But God’s answers often do not come in the form of a letter from heaven, but through a process involving the heart, faith, and obedience.
1. God Wants You to Know and Love Him First
Before talking about what you should do, God is more interested in who you are before Him. In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. Life is not just about achievements, but about relationship. Your main purpose in life is to know God personally.
2. God Gives You Talents to Use, Not to Keep
In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), the servant who hid his talent was rebuked for not using it. God created you with uniqueness: personality, abilities, experiences, and a distinctive calling. God wants you to use all of these to bless others, not just yourself.
3. God Wants You to Be the Light and Salt of the World
It’s not only pastors or missionaries who have a “divine calling.” You can be a teacher, a homemaker, a student, a designer, a technician, or a entrepreneur, as long as you do it with love, honesty, and faith, it can be ministry. In Matthew 5:13-16, God calls us to be the light and salt of the world. This means your life can bring flavor and direction to others.
4. God Wants You to Trust, Not to Know All the Answers Now
Sometimes we want God to give us a blueprint of our life from A to Z. But He more often guides step by step. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will make your paths straight.” God wants you to walk by faith, not just logic.
5. God Wants You to Live for Eternity, Not Just This World
Philippians 3:20 says that our citizenship is in heaven. This means, this life is not just about success in the world, but about eternal investment. God wants your life to bear fruit that lasts into eternity: love, forgiveness, service, and a living testimony that leads people to Him.
