When Faith Clashes with Logic

When we face major decisions in life, logic and faith often seem to stand on opposite sides. Logic says, “Look at the data, consider the risks,” while faith whispers, “Trust, even though the path is not yet visible.” So, how do we navigate life when these two collide?

In a highly rational world, faith is often considered unreasonable. For example, when someone decides to leave a high-paying job to serve in God’s field, many will say it is a foolish decision. But isn’t that what Abraham did? He left his country and comfort simply because God’s word said, “Go from your country… to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1). Without GPS, without a complete proposal, only the voice of God and conviction in his heart.

Faith is not anti-logic, but transcends logic

Faith is not foolishness. Faith does not reject facts, but believes that there is a higher reality than what can be seen. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” When logic says “impossible,” faith says, “all things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27).

As humans, we are given reason and faith, both are important. But there will come a time when our logic cannot answer everything. That is where faith is tested and proven. When Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves and two fish (John 6:5-13), logically, it made no sense. But the miracle happened precisely when the disciples obeyed and acted according to Jesus’ command.

Why must we dare to choose faith?

Because life is not only about what makes sense, but about walking in God’s will. Sometimes we are called to step into things we do not fully understand yet, but God asks for our trust first. Like Peter who was asked to walk on water, he succeeded momentarily because his focus was on Jesus, not on the waves (Matthew 14:29-30).

So, when your faith clashes with your logic, don’t rush to reject either one. Pray, reflect, and ask: “Is this God’s will?” If yes, even if it doesn’t make sense yet, believe. Because God does not need permission from your logic to fulfill His plan.
