Not all of God’s great works in our lives happen in front of many people. There are processes that God allows to take place privately, hidden, even as if no one is paying attention. But it is precisely in those hidden spaces that God is working to shape our hearts.
Jesus Himself set an example. Before appearing before many people, He spent 40 days in the wilderness to be tested (Matthew 4:1-2). There were no human cheers, no applause, only the struggle between obedience and temptation. The victory in the wilderness prepared Him for open ministry. Likewise, David. Before being known as a king, he first practiced faithfulness by tending a few sheep in the fields, far from the spotlight.
This hidden process is important because it is where character is forged. We learn faithfulness without recognition, humility without cheers, and obedience without applause. Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much.” Faithfulness in hidden spaces is the foundation for being used in greater things.
The problem is, we often want instant results and quick recognition.
We want others to immediately see our growth, our service, or miracles in our lives. But God works in a different way. He cares more about who we are when no one is watching than about what we display in front of many people.
So, if right now you feel like you are being processed in silence, don’t be disappointed. Maybe no one sees it, but God is working within. In time, what He has personally shaped will be evident through our lives before many people.
Lord, teach us to appreciate the hidden process You allow in our lives. Let us be faithful even when no one is watching, and trust that You are shaping us for Your greater plan. Amen.
