Waiting is a part of life that no one likes. Especially when what we are waiting for is the answer to a prayer we deeply hope for. We have asked in Jesus’ name, we have fasted, we have believed… but time passes, and God has not yet answered. At times like this, the heart easily wavers. We begin to wonder, “Does God hear? Does He care?”
If you are currently in a long season of waiting, this reflection is for you. Because God does not always answer prayers according to the timing we want, but He always answers at the most perfect time.
God Is Never in a Hurry, But Also Never Late
In John 11, we read the story of Lazarus who was very sick. Martha and Mary, Lazarus’ sisters, immediately sent a message to Jesus to come and heal him. But strangely, Jesus stayed two more days where He was (John 11:6). As a result, Lazarus died.
From a human perspective, this looks like a fatal delay. But Jesus knew what He was doing. He came not to heal, but to raise him up. His delay was not a failure, but part of a greater plan.
Jesus then said to Martha in John 11:40, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” God wants us to learn to wait not with frustration, but with faith.
Waiting in Prayer Is Not Wasted Time
When we wait for God to answer prayer, we are in a spiritual training ground. Like a seed planted in the soil, we do not see the growth process, but that does not mean nothing is happening. Psalm 27:14 advises, “Wait for the LORD! Be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD!”
Waiting does not mean being passive, but being active in trust and faithfulness. We continue to pray, remain faithful, continue to believe, even though the answer has not yet come.
Why Does God Sometimes Make Us Wait?
- Because we are not ready yet. Like a child who is not yet able to handle great responsibility, God knows when we are truly ready to receive what we ask for. Proverbs 20:21 says, “An inheritance hastily gotten at the beginning will not be blessed in the end.”
- Because He is transforming us. God is more interested in the growth of our character than merely fulfilling requests. James 1:3-4 says, “Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
- Because His answer is greater than what we prayed for. Sometimes we ask for small things, but God is preparing something much greater.
What Should We Do While Waiting?
- Keep praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17: “Pray without ceasing.” Don’t stop talking to God, even when you haven’t seen the answer yet.
- Fill the waiting time with goodness. Do useful things, help others, stay productive while hoping.
- Trust in God’s character. Even if you don’t understand His ways yet, trust that He is good and knows what is best for you.
Closing: Don’t Be Afraid to Wait, Because God Is Working
If today you feel God is late, remember that His plans are never chaotic. What you see as delay may be a heavenly preparation that cannot be seen by ordinary eyes.
He does not sleep. He does not forget. He is simply weaving something beautiful from your prayers. Keep waiting with faith. Because in time, you will say, “It turns out this really is the best.”
