Yet this is what You have hidden in Your heart; I know that this was Your purpose:

if I sin, then You will watch me, and You will not acquit me of my guilt.

If I am guilty, woe to me! And if I am righteous, I dare not lift up my head, for I am full of shame, and because I see my affliction.

If I lift up my head, You hunt me like a lion, and again show Your wondrous power against me.
17
You bring new witnesses against me — You increase Your anger toward me — and fresh troops, even armies, against me.
18
Why did You bring me out from the womb? I would have perished before any eye saw me!
19
Then I would have been as though I had never been; from the womb I would have been carried straight to the grave.
20
Are not the days of my life few? Leave me alone, that I may have a little joy,
21
before I go, and return no more, to the land of darkness and deep gloom,
22
to the land of utter darkness, a place of deep gloom and disorder, where light is like darkness.”
😢❓🕯️ Summary of Job 10 – “Lord, Why Did You Create Me Only to Torment Me?”
In Job 10, Job speaks directly to God with a broken heart. This is a continuation of his search for the meaning of suffering. Job questions why God, who created him with love, now seems to stand as an enemy who afflicts him. He is not demanding justice because he feels innocent, but rather wants to understand the purpose of his suffering. Job expresses doubt, hurt, and a desire to be understood, not judged.
📌 1. Why Do You Afflict Me, O Lord? (verses 1–7)
➡️ Job expresses:
“I am weary of my life…”
➡️ He asks:
“Are You pleased to oppress me… though You know I am not guilty?”
➡️ He is bewildered:
“You know that I am not guilty, yet no one can deliver me from Your hand.”
🎯 Job is not accusing God recklessly, but wants to understand why God treats him as though he were guilty.
📌 2. You Who Formed Me, Now Destroy Me? (verses 8–17)
➡️ Job remembers how God “formed him like clay” and “wove him with love.”
➡️ He says:
“You gave me life and preserved me with steadfast love.”
➡️ But now he feels God is hunting him like a lion, punishing him though he is not guilty.
➡️ He says:
“If I am guilty, woe to me. If I am righteous, I dare not lift up my head.”
🎯 Job feels like a beloved creation, then betrayed by his Creator. He wants to know: is life worth it if it is only to be destroyed?
📌 3. Why Did You Let Me Be Born? (verses 18–22)
➡️ Job repeats his lament from chapter 3:
“Why did You bring me out from the womb?”
➡️ He wishes God had let him die in the womb, so he would not have to endure all this
➡️ He describes death as a dark place without hope
🎯 Job is not thinking of suicide — he only wishes God would take away his life, which he sees as futile.
