How long wilt Thou hide Thy face from me?

(13-3) How long must I take counsel in my soul,
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

(13-4) Consider and answer me, O LORD my God!
Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,

and those who trouble me rejoice when I am shaken.

(13-6a) But I have trusted in Thy steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation.

Psalm 13 is one of David’s personal psalms of lament, beginning with a cry of despair and ending with hopeful praise. It reflects the emotional and spiritual journey many believers know: from feeling forsaken by God, into prayer, and finally back to trust and joy.
This psalm shows that the feeling that God is silent is not proof that He is absent, and that inward struggle can become a path toward restored faith.
📌 1. Complaint from Feeling Forsaken by God (verses 1–2)
➡️ David asks four times, “How long, O LORD?”
➡️ He feels forgotten, abandoned, and overwhelmed by sorrow continually.
🎯 Even those who are nearest to God may feel far from Him — yet they still cry out to Him.

➡️ He fears that if he dies, his enemies will rejoice over his fall.
