In daily life, we often feel safe when no one knows the mistakes we have made. Sins that are unseen by others are often considered not serious, even as if they are not sins at all. But are hidden sins still regarded as sins in the eyes of God?
Proverbs 15:3 reminds us, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” Nothing is hidden from His presence. Even if we manage to hide intentions, thoughts, or actions from other people, God clearly sees into the depths of the heart.
Hidden sins can take many forms. Evil thoughts kept silently. Impure motives in helping others. Grudges nurtured without ever being expressed. Even when we commit wrong acts unknown to anyone, such as small corruption, white lies, or manipulating situations for personal gain, all of these are still recorded before God.
Psalm 139:11-12 says, “If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to You; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light with You.” This verse shows that there is no dark place in our lives that is not illuminated by God’s eyes.
Why do we need to confess and deal with hidden sins? Because what is hidden can slowly rot. Just like a small wound left untreated can become a serious infection, sins that are hidden for a long time will destroy our spiritual life. God not only sees sin, but He also longs to restore and purify.
1 John 1:9 offers hope, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Confession is the beginning of restoration. When we are honest before God, even about things unknown to anyone else, His grace is able to cleanse us.
The question is: Are we still holding sins in our hearts that have never been confessed? God does not seek confession because He does not know. He seeks it because He wants us to live in honesty and spiritual freedom.
