Every day we face so many choices, ranging from small things like what we eat, to big things like jobs, life partners, or the direction of our ministry. These choices may seem simple, but if we pay attention, every decision shapes the path of our lives. The life we live today is the result of the choices we made yesterday.
The Bible gives many examples of how a choice can change everything. When Adam and Eve decided to eat the forbidden fruit, they not only changed their own lives but also affected all of humanity (Genesis 3:6). Conversely, when Joshua chose to remain faithful to God, he firmly declared to the people of Israel: โBut as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD!โ (Joshua 24:15).
Choices always have consequences. Sometimes we want things quickly and instantly, so we choose shortcuts that seem easier. However, Godโs way is not always the fastest, but it is always the best. Proverbs 3:5-6 affirms, โTrust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
“Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will make your paths straight.” This means the best decision is not necessarily the most logical according to our own thinking, but the one that aligns most with His will.
Often we feel afraid of making the wrong choice, especially when the decision concerns the future. However, the good news is that God does not let us walk alone. He gives the Holy Spirit to guide us (John 14:26). Even when we take a wrong step, His grace is able to bring us back to the right path. The most important thing is a heart willing to obey and humble before God.
Let us learn to involve God in every decision. Not only when we face big choices, but also in small matters. The more we get used to hearing His voice, the more sensitive we become in recognizing His will. Remember, the choices we make today not only determine temporary comfort but also have eternal consequences.
Life is like a long journey with many crossroads. Do not let yourself choose based only on momentary emotions or worldly desires. Take time to pray, reflect, and seek God’s word before stepping forward.
Because at the end of the journey, it is not how fast we arrive that matters, but whether we reach the right destination with God.
Lord, thank You for giving us the freedom to choose, as well as guidance so that we do not take the wrong steps. Teach us to always involve You in every decision, both small and large. Give us sensitive and obedient hearts, so that each of our choices draws us closer to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
