Many of us want to be used by God in extraordinary ways, but not everyone is willing to be shaped through painful processes. We want the end result: to be the light of the world, to be a channel of blessing, to be a bringer of change. But the process to get there? Not everyone is ready. Yet, it all starts with a heart that can be shaped.
God does not shape people from the outside in, but from the inside out. He does not need the smartest or most talented people. He looks for a soft heart, a heart willing to be taught, a heart willing to be processed. In Jeremiah 18:6, God describes Himself as a potter: “Indeed, like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand.”
Clay cannot shape itself. It must surrender to the potter’s hands. If it is too hard, it cannot be shaped. If it is too dry, it will crack. The same goes for our hearts. If we are hard, we will reject God’s touch. But if we are soft, God can shape us into beautiful and useful vessels.
The problem is, the shaping process is often unpleasant. God uses uncomfortable situations: rejection, failure, waiting, correction. But it is precisely under pressure that our character is formed. God cares more about the quality of our hearts than the comfort of our lives.
David was not a king because of his physical stature. He became king because his heart was pleasing to God. Acts 13:22 records that God called David “a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.” David was not perfect, but he had a heart that always returned to God, even after falling.
A heart that can be shaped is a heart that can be corrected. When God speaks, it does not defend itself but repents. When God delays, it does not give up but continues to trust. When God changes direction, it follows.
God cannot use a person who cannot be shaped. But He can use anyone who surrenders their heart, no matter how messy their past. The key is not perfection, but willingness.
So let us ask today: Is my heart still able to be shaped by God? Or am I already too hard, too proud, or too afraid to be reshaped?
Open your heart. Let God work, knead, even crush if necessary to shape you into a vessel according to His will. Because a heart shaped by God, will surely be used by God.
