There is nothing wrong with wanting appreciation for our hard work. However, when appreciation does not come, are we still willing to remain faithful? This is a test that is often hidden. Behind feelings of fatigue and disappointment, there is a big question: โAm I doing this for God or for people?โ
Jesus Himself once reminded us in Matthew 6:4, โYour Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.โ God always sees what others do not see. When we serve, work, or do good without the spotlight, God’s eyes are still watching. He sees our sincerity, even when no one praises us.
Faithfulness is not the result of praise, but a decision of the heart. Daniel remained faithful in praying three times a day (Daniel 6:10) even though no one appreciated it, and even faced the threat of punishment. Why? Because he knew to whom he was giving his faithfulness. He did not seek human recognition, but faithfulness to God.
How can we remain faithful when there is no appreciation?
- Remember whom we serve. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Human praise can change, but the reward from God is eternal.
- View service as an opportunity, not a burden. Sometimes we feel disappointed because we feel unappreciated. But when we see every good deed as an act of love toward God, we will feel content.
- Learn the meaning of giving without expecting anything in return. Jesus teaches us to do good selflessly (Matthew 6:1-3). When our focus is to please God, we are not easily shaken when appreciation does not come.
Faithfulness in quiet times is more valuable than faithfulness under the spotlight. In Luke 16:10 Jesus says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” God often tests us in small and hidden matters before entrusting us with greater things.
Maybe today you are feeling tired because your hard work is unseen or unappreciated. Remember that your worth is not determined by how many people say thank you, but by the eyes of God who always look upon you with love. Even the smallest thing you do will never be in vain before Him (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Faithfulness without appreciation is not a sign of weakness, but proof of faith. Because true faithfulness is continuing to walk forward even without applause, trusting that God Himself is our greatest reward.
