We live in a world that is very results-oriented. The value of success is often measured by the final achievement: a stable job, sales figures, accomplishments, or awards. However, God sees something more important than just the outcome. He cares about the process that shapes us. It is in this journey that our character, faith, and heart are forged.
When God brought the nation of Israel out of Egypt, He did not choose the fastest route to the Promised Land. Instead, they were led to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. Why? Deuteronomy 8:2 explains, โRemember the whole journey that you have taken in the wilderness these forty years: the LORD your God has been leading you to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart.โ The wilderness process was not without reason, but to test, train, and purify them.
God works behind every process, even when we do not see great progress. Like a potter shaping clay (Jeremiah 18:6), God patiently kneads our lives, breaking the cracked parts, then reshaping them. Sometimes we only want a beautiful final result, but God wants our hearts ready to receive that blessing.
The process teaches us to trust, not just the outcome. Abraham waited for decades before God’s promise about descendants was fulfilled (Genesis 15:5-6). During that waiting period, he learned to rely fully on God. Without the process, our faith would be shallow, because we only believe when we see proof. True faith grows in the waiting time, not when everything is already clear.
Jesus also set an example. He lived 30 years of seemingly ordinary life before beginning a ministry that lasted only 3.5 years. That process shaped Him to fully obey the Father’s plan, even to the point of willingly dying on the cross. If God Himself did not take shortcuts, why should we rush through the process?
The outcome is a bonus, but the process is where God plants strength and character in us. Romans 5:3-4 says, โSuffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.โ Every step in this process prepares us for something greater.
So, if today you feel life is moving slowly or not according to plan, trust that God is working. He cares not only about the final goal but about who you become when you get there. Embrace the process with faith, because it is there that God shapes you into the person He designed.
