Not Just Knowing, But Believing

There is a big difference between knowing about God and fully trusting Him. Many people know Bible verses, memorize stories of faith, and can even quote Scripture fluently. But when the storms of life come, what often shows is whether we truly believe or only know.

James 2:19 says, โ€œYou believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe thatโ€”and shudder.โ€ This verse reminds us that knowledge alone is not enough to save. Believing means involving the heart, the courage to lean on Him, and real actions that match our faith.

A clear example can be seen in Abrahamโ€™s life. He knew God had promised him descendants, but his faith was tested when he was asked to offer Isaac (Genesis 22:1-18). From a human perspective, it made no sense. Yet Abraham trusted in Godโ€™s faithful character, so he dared to take the step. That is why he was called the father of all who believe.

Many of us stop at the level of โ€œknowing.โ€ We know God is able to heal, but we still trust our worries more. We know God provides, but our hearts remain anxious about finances. We know God leads, but we still hold on to control as if we know the best way.

Jesus once said to Martha in John 11:40, โ€œDid I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?โ€ Here, Jesus did not say, โ€œif you know,โ€ but โ€œif you believe.โ€ There are promises that only open when we dare to step out in faith, not just knowledge.

True faith is not merely information, but transformation. We are not called only to know who God is, but to live by trusting and leaning fully on Him. Knowledge can broaden our understanding, but trusting God will change the direction of our lives.

Lord, I do not want to merely know about You. Help me to truly believe, surrendering my heart, my steps, and my whole life into Your hands. Teach me to live in real faith, not just knowledge. Amen.
